Ulf Johansson started for I 2 Idrottsförening from Karlstad . In the late 1980s and the first half of the 1990s he was part of the Swedish national biathlon team. The gardener who lives in Umeå made his debut in the 1987/88 season in the biathlon world cup . In 1990 he took part in the Biathlon World Championships in Oslo for the first time and was 17th in the sprint and eighth with the Swedish team with Anders Mannelqvist , Lars Wiklund and Mikael Löfgren . In 1991 in Lahti he was again eighth with the team in the same composition, with Ulf Sjöden , Mannelqvist and Löfgren seventh in the relay race and 42nd in the sprint. At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , Johansson was used in all three races. In the individual, he finished 64th, was 14th in the sprint and won the bronze medal with Leif Andersson , Tord Wiksten and Mikael Löfgren as the starting runner of the relay behind Germany and the United Team . It was the first biathlon medal for Sweden since Lars-Göran Arwidson won the bronze medal in the singles of the 1972 Games . The post-Olympic season was the most successful of Sweden. He achieved his six best career results this season, including five top ten placements. After he finished second in a sprint in Oberhof and only Johann Passler had to admit defeat, he won his only World Cup race in Antholz shortly afterwards with an individual. In the overall standings, Johansson took twelfth place. The Biathlon World Championships in Borovets in 1993 were not quite as successful . The Swede was 77th in the individual, 27th in the sprint and sixth in the relay. In 1994 he came to the Olympic Games for the second time in Lillehammer . He was able to start again in all three races. In the sprint he reached 20th place, was 42nd in the individual and eleventh in the relay. The last major event was the 1995 World Championships in Antholz. In the sprint, Johansson reached 77th place, was 40th of the individual and reached sixth place with the Swedish relay.
