Ulrich Friedrich Opfermann (* 1945 in Krefeld ) is a German historian and author.

Life

Ulrich F. Opfermann is a trained industrial clerk and holds a doctorate in history. He studied economics, history, German studies and education at the University of Cologne and the Siegen University. In the 1970s he was a member of the SPD and joined the Socialist University Association (SHB) . He was the founding senator of the GH Siegen.

He was a board member of the NS Memorial Active Museum South Westphalia in Siegen and as such was active in the working group of NS Memorials in North Rhine-Westphalia. He is a research associate at the Rom e. V. in Cologne and was a board member of the association. He is a member of the Society for Antiziganism Research.

As an author, he is particularly concerned with the history of Roma , Jews and Yeniche as well as with German nationalism and Nazi history. He puts a focus on West Germany.

He worked temporarily as a lecturer at the history seminar of the University of Siegen . The volume he published together with Karola Fings , Gypsies in the Rhineland and Westphalia 1933–1945 , was rated by Gottfried Niedhart as having "remarkable analytical competence and great empathy for the victims".
