Baron Ulrich Angelbert von der Horst (born November 16, 1793 in Halberstadt , † May 9, 1867 in Braunschweig ) was a Schleswig-Holstein general .

Life

origin

Ulrich Angelbert came from the Westphalian noble family Horst . He was the son of Georg Wilhelm Peter Alfred von der Horst (1759–1805) and his wife Anna Helene Dorothea, born von Liebenau (1766–1831). His father was a Prussian lieutenant a. D. , Prelate of Halberstadt , Knight of the Order of St. John and Chief Forestry Officer. His two brothers Wilhelm and August also embarked on a military career in the Prussian Army and both made it to lieutenant general .

Military career

Horst joined the Prussian Army in 1806 and took part in the campaign against Russia under Yorck in 1812 . In 1813 he took part in the subsequent campaign as an adjutant of the 1st Brigade in the Russian-German Legion .

After the first Peace of Paris in 1814, he was taken back into Prussian service and then fought under Blücher in the Battle of Ligny in 1815 and was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of Saint Anne III. Excellent with a bow.

From March 31, 1846, Horst was initially commissioned as a lieutenant colonel with the command of the 19th Infantry Regiment stationed in Posen until he was finally appointed commander on September 25, 1846. In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 27, 1847 . With the regiment he participated in the suppression of the Polish uprising. Horst was on May 6, 1847 board for disposition made and approved on 4 April 1850th

In the same year he joined the Schleswig-Holstein Army as major general and initially commanded the Jägerkorps and later the 3rd Infantry Brigade. In the battle of Idstedt he fought with this troop on July 25, 1850 with distinction. On December 8, 1850, he replaced Wilhelm von Willisen as commander in chief of the army. Due to the unfavorable conditions in the country, however, no significant successes could be achieved. Horst was thus the last commanding general of the Schleswig-Holstein army in the fight against the Danes .

In 1852 he published a small pamphlet about the battle of Idstedt in which the general presented the battle and the military-strategic events from his personal perspective.

family

He married Wilhelmine Caroline Dorothea von Linsingen (1798–1846) on November 10, 1816 in Lüneburg. From the marriage comes:

  • Wilhelm Georg Alfred (1817–1900), Lieutenant Colonel ret. D. ∞ Sophia Hugo (born November 12, 1841).
  • Kornelie Mathilde Antoniette (* 1827), lady-in-waiting of Princess Marie of Saxe-Meiningen

After the death of his first wife, Romana married Josepha Seraphina von Kurcewska (1819–1876) in Poznan on May 6, 1847.
