August Bernhard Wieprecht Freiherr von der Horst (born July 11, 1792 in Halberstadt , † September 7, 1868 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

August was a son of the prelate of Halberstadt Wilhelm von der Horst (1759-1805) and his wife Anna, born von Liebenau (1766-1831). His two brothers Wilhelm (1786–1874) and Ulrich (1793–1867) also became high military officials.

Military career

Horst visited the cadet house in Berlin and in mid-October 1806, during the Fourth Coalition War, he was employed as portepeef ensign in the 1st Neumark Reserve Battalion of the Prussian Army . After being transferred to the "von Rüchel" infantry regiment at the beginning of January 1807 , he took part in the battles near Preussisch Eylau , Gollnow and Königsberg. After the Peace of Tilsit , Horst was promoted to Second Lieutenant in May 1808 .

At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , Horst was wounded in the battle of Großgörschen and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his behavior near Bautzen . In the further course of the war he took part in the battles on the Katzbach and Laon . Near Paris , Horst suffered another wound from a shot in the shoulder and chest. In mid-October 1814 he was transferred to the Emperor Alexander Grenadier Regiment and two months later to the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment and promoted to Prime Lieutenant . In 1815 he took part in the March on Paris .

After the peace treaty, Horst rose to become captain and company commander in March 1816 . He became major on October 12, 1829 , and from June 15, 1831 acted as commander of the Fusilier battalion in Berlin. As a lieutenant colonel in the late summer of 1841, during the revue in Silesia, he was leader of the 3rd Guards Landwehr Regiment. On October 21, 1841, he was initially commissioned to lead the 1st Infantry Regiment and on January 13, 1842, Horst was appointed regiment commander. In this position he rose to colonel on April 7, 1842 . For a short time from March 9 to July 19, 1848 he was in command of the 13th Infantry Brigade in Münster , in the meantime advanced to major general and then received command of the 2nd Infantry Brigade in Danzig . On October 12, 1849 Horst was appointed commander of the 2nd Landwehr Brigade, which was also stationed in Danzig. Awarded the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves in August 1851 , he returned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade on September 22, 1851 as commander. For three months was Horst commander of the 3rd Infantry Brigade until August 10, 1852 award of the character as a lieutenant general with board his farewell took.

On August 18, 1857, he was put up for disposal with the previous pension .

Horst married Luise von Cronberg on June 18, 1818 in Berlin (* November 22, 1794; † January 28, 1867). The following children were born from the marriage:
