Unterglauheim is a district of the community Blindheim in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau .

geography

The parish village is located two kilometers north of Blindheim on the high terrace above the Nebelbach. It spreads on both sides of the district road DLG 32 , which leads from Blindheim to Schwennenbach .

history

In 1834 a deposit was made in a field that contained important drinking vessels from the late Bronze Age . The elaborately manufactured gold cups from the 8th / 9th centuries Century BC Are on display in the Roman Museum Augsburg (closed since 2013).

Presumably Unterglauheim is a 7th century development settlement created by Blindheim. The name Glauheim, also applicable to the neighboring town of Oberglauheim , was first passed down as "Glaheim" around 1150. In 1255 the name Unterglauheim as "inferius Glaheim" can be traced for the first time. In the High Middle Ages , the place belonged to the County of Oettingen , but was subject to the Vogtei Höchstädt , which came to Bavaria in 1268 through the Conradin inheritance . Bayern gained in the late Middle Ages , the country's high awareness about the place of the Lower Court and the later Vogt Office was placed under home for the blind. The property in Unterglauheim was very fragmented, in 1560 the Kaisheim monastery belonged to the 16 different landlords in the village.

In 1704, Unterglauheim was set on fire by French troops during the War of the Spanish Succession . Only the church survived the fire. Another major fire in August 1881 destroyed three quarters of the village.

St. Vitus in Unterglauheim

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Unterglauheim, consisting of the main town and the districts of Berghausen , Blindheim Bahnhof, Sallmannsberg and Weilheim , was incorporated into Blindheim as part of the municipal reform .

religion

Until 1858 Unterglauheim belonged to the Catholic parish Blindheim. The place was now raised to a parish curate and in 1903 the elevation to an independent parish took place. The St. Vitus Church was built between 1921 and 1923. The tower was renewed in 1969/70.
