Location and geography

Overview of the Lebern district, the Unterleberberg shown in red, the Oberleberberg in green

The Unterer Leberberg region borders in the west on the Oberer Leberberg region and the city of Solothurn, in the south it borders on the Wasseramt district , in the north on the Thal district and in the east on the Bernese Attiswil , it includes the communities of Balm bei Günsberg, Günsberg , Kammersrohr, Niederwil, the eastern part of the municipality of Rüttenen, Riedholz, Hubersdorf and Flumenthal. The Siggern , which rises on the Balmberg, flows through the region . The Balmberg and the Röti are also located in the area of the Unterleberberg (eigtl. From Balm near Günsberg ).

The villages of Günsberg and Kammersrohr are located on the slopes of the Jura Mountains , each of which has a stream flowing through it, which flows south into the greater Siggern. The Niederwil , which is further down, and the Hubersdorf , which is even further down, are traversed by the Siggern and are thus in the small valley of the stream. After the two villages, the stream forms the border between the region and the canton of Bern before it flows into the Aare next to Flumenthal. The village of Balm bei Günsberg is located just below the source of the Siggern and Balmfluhchöpflis at an altitude of 670  m above sea level. M. and is therefore the highest village in the region. The largest village in the region in terms of population, Riedholz , lies below the Verena chain, one of the small anticlines in front of the Weissenstein chain , on a terrace north of the Aare. The Verena chain also separates the village from the upper villages (Niederwil and Balm near Günsberg) and the Siggern, which actually has no catchment area in the main. Further east of Riedholz is the Hinteres Riedholz settlement , which still belongs to Riedholz. It is a settlement between the villages of Riedholz, Hubersdorf and Flumenthal, and lies below the Scharlenwald in the east, where the area of the municipality of Flumenthal begins. The industrial settlement Bad Attisholz or Attisholz is located south of Riedholz, on the Aare . When you cross the Aare, you are already in the Luterbach municipality. In the south-east of the region is the 1000-soul village of Flumenthal , which is located below the Scheidwegen forest and from Hubersdorf on a gravel terrace and in the lowlands of the Aare. The community only has its last borders in the southeast on the A1 , where it also takes up a small part of the Schachen therapy center ( Deitingen ). In terms of traffic, this area behind the Aare is not directly connected to Flumenthal. Feldbrunnen-St. Niklaus consists of two districts of Feldbrunnen , which is located on the gravel terrace of the Aare and west of Attisholz , and St. Niklaus , which is below the Verena chain. St. Niklaus has already grown together with the city of Solothurn through brisk residential construction.

The area occupies a total of approx. 29 km².

traffic

The region has good transport links. The main road H5 , which comes from Solothurn, passes below Riedholz and above Flumenthal, and continues into Attiswil in Bern, where it branches off at Wiedlisbach to the A1 or continues towards Olten . A branch of the Riedholz-Flumenthal route leads to Hubersdorf, Günsberg and Niederwil. Kammersrohr can also be reached by car from Hubersdorf and Günsberg. Balm bei Günsberg is connected by three roads, one from Günsberg, another from Niederwil and the last one from Rüttenen . The Alte Balmbergstrasse leads from Balm near Günsberg to the Balmberg. The Neue Balmbergstrasse , which leads from Günsberg, has existed since 1999 . When you reach the Balmberg, the road continues to Welschenrohr through the Balmbergpass . From the villages of Riedholz and Flumenthal there are main roads to St. Niklaus and Luterbach . A section of the A1 motorway runs through the municipality of Flumenthal, but there is no direct connection. The bus company Postauto operates around 15 bus stations in Unterleberberg, which are served daily from Solothurn. Only the municipality of Flumenthal does not have a bus station on municipal soil. For this purpose, it is connected to the Solothurn-Niederbipp-Bahn , which comes from Riedholz and continues from the village station to Attiswil.
