geography

location

Untersteinbach is 6 km southeast of Pfedelbach in front of and on a widening of the river valley formed by the inlet of the right Steinbach to the upper Ohrn in the downward part of the main town and is a state-approved resort .

Community structure

It includes the village of Untersteinbach itself, Bühl , Ohnholz, Floßholz, Schuppach, Heimaten, Kohlhof, Simonsberg and Mittelsteinbach.

history

It can be assumed that Untersteinbach was created during the clearing time of the 11th or 12th century. It was first mentioned in 1266 as Steinbach apud Oren . The first school house was inaugurated in 1680. In the year of the crisis, 1853, the most highly taxed parishioners took the children from very poor families into food in order to put off the child's begging. It is reported that in some families the poverty was so great that the children had no shoes in winter and they lacked essential clothing. The first toddler school was set up in 1889. In 1935, the outdoor pool was inaugurated. Since 1967 there is only one elementary school. The secondary school students have been attending the Creutzfeld School in Pfedelbach since then. On January 1, 1973, the hamlets Heimaten and Schuppach, which had previously belonged to the old community of Geißelhardt, were incorporated into Pfedelbach and thus added to the village of Untersteinbach. The kindergarten was also inaugurated in 1973. The leisure area of the Ludwigsburg sports district is located above the sports facilities and the outdoor pool . Untersteinbach is home to an AOK education center and is a state-approved resort . There was a pilgrimage chapel in Schuppach in the 15th century. From 1919 to 1927 Pastor Ernst Hirzel was the parish priest, whose children Hans (1924–2006) and Susanne (1921–2012) were born here. In 1943 they were sentenced to prison terms by People's Court President Roland Freisler for their participation in the leaflet campaign of the White Rose resistance group .

children Party

The first children's festival took place in 1830. In 1912 it was decided to stop serving alcoholic beverages for children. Since 1981 the children's festival has been celebrated with a parade every two years in the odd years. The children's festival is originally a church festival. The whole parish with Harsberg , Gleichen, Obersteinbach and Büchelberg took part in the festival. When the schools in these towns were closed, it became more and more difficult to get citizens to help. Only Harsberg and Gleichen are celebrating to this day.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Untersteinbach on the former town hall

The former municipal coat of arms of Untersteinbach shows a flying silver swan in black. The meaning of the coat of arms is as follows: “The swan flying up is the coat of arms of the Lords of Krautheim, who owned the place in the 13th century. The colors white and black are the reverse colors of the Hohenlohe house, which later owned the place. ”The swan coat of arms was awarded on April 2, 1957 by the Ministry of the Interior (No. IV, 31/27, Untersteinbach 1). Before the swan became the coat of arms of Untersteinbach, there was more than just approval for it. "Has nothing to do with any tradition," it said from the competent side. As early as 1936, Untersteinbach had tried to get a coat of arms. So-called thumb sketches were presented. One of them shows a sloping wavy band and a leopard. Another proposal for a coat of arms looked like this: Above a corrugated blue shield base, a white wall made of stones and provided with three battlements in a red field. But: “A decision based on the proposal of the archives management was probably not made at that time,” is noted in Stuttgart.

Local council

The village of Untersteinbach has a local council with a total of nine members. Manfred Metzger was mayor from 1999 to 2019 . Klaus Dürr has been the mayor since 2019.

Buildings

The town center is determined by small properties with some stilted seldner houses. Small rural farms and small cottages follow. In the Middle Ages, the Church of Our Lady Untersteinbach, mentioned for the first time in 1368, was a branch of the collegiate church in Öhringen , but only had the legal status of a chapel . In 1525 the Untersteinbach chaplain became its own parish. The old chapel was rebuilt and enlarged from 1623 to 1625 by master builder Heinrich Schickhardt into today's Protestant church. The single-nave church still has Romanesque remains and has been equipped with west and north galleries, paintings on the gallery parapet and in the square tower choir since 1969 with a large choir window by the artist Anna-Dorothea Kunz-Saile . The Herrenkeller (under the gymnasium and festival hall) is from 1623. In 1887/1888 a new schoolhouse was built, which still houses the primary school today. In 1954 and 1955, the former band house was converted into a gymnasium and festival hall . In 2010 the newly built Steinbacher Tal sports hall was inaugurated.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Untersteinbach, the facilities for covering daily needs are no longer available. A food market, the butcher's and the last restaurant had to close in 2019. Craft businesses, kindergartens and elementary schools as well as a branch of the Pfedelbach administration can be found. Fruit growing and viticulture are the agricultural focus.

Care and education

Due to the spatial location and the recognition as a resort, several educational and care facilities are located in Untersteinbach. In addition to the old people's and nursing homes, Haus Schönblick has been in existence since 1976 , a non-profit institution for people who are chronically mentally ill. In 2006 the facility was expanded to include an geriatric psychiatric department.

In 1972 the training center of the AOK regional association Baden-Württemberg was opened. Every year, more than 750 trainees are trained in several course sections by four full-time and over 100 part-time teachers for practical application. With the training center, more than 800 employees of the local health insurance funds are trained. Delegations from the other federal states, but also from Africa and Asia as well as from overseas have already been guests to find out about health policy, social security in the Federal Republic and the educational institution. The entire needs of the facility result in over 30,000 overnight stays each year, about a third of which are taken over by inns and private room renters.
