Ursula Peter (born August 13, 1924 in Weimar ; † May 30, 1989 ibid) was a German guitarist and professor at the Liszt School of Music Weimar .

Life

Ursula Peter studied at the Academy of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar first piano before the guitar changed. Her teacher was Walter Socha, a trained violinist and chamber virtuoso of the Staatskapelle Weimar . He refined his self-taught guitar playing through self-study and through attending concerts with Andrés Segovia and Miguel Llobet , who gave concerts in Weimar in the 1930s. Through him Ursula Peter got to know the guitar works of the Spanish school, especially Francisco Tárrega . Walter Socha was the first lecturer for guitar at the Weimar University.

After completing her studies in 1945, Ursula Peter became a guitar teacher at the Weimar University of Music.

In 1951 she became a college teacher and head of the guitar department at the same university.

In 1953, her textbook, The Beginning Lessons in Guitar Playing , appeared for the first time .

In 1980 she was appointed professor .

Ursula Peter systematically built up an educational network between composers , music school teachers and guitar makers in the GDR . She developed curricula for guitar lessons at music schools and universities and coordinated further training for guitar teachers. She chaired the jury in the “Young Talents” youth competition. She trained world-renowned guitar soloists who were able to assert themselves on the international concert stages. Ursula Peter prepared the ground for what we now call the “Weimar Guitar School ”.

Methodical way

Ursula Peter's method is based on the classical Spanish guitar technique of Fernando Sor and Francisco Tarrega. She understands the guitar as an instrument that can represent both melodic and chordal structures.

Her school work begins with the unison playing of the melody (apoyando) and derives the other types of attack from it.

The aim is to achieve a great versatility of the tone through fingerings that are determined by musical aspects. The design of the phrasing , articulation , agogic and dynamics is determined by the general principles of the interpretation of instrumental music .

The musical material in the major - minor system, arranged according to keys, brings classical movements, German and international folk songs , lute music and contemporary compositions.
