Uwe Bredow (born August 22, 1961 in Leipzig ) is a former German soccer player. He spent his entire career at 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and its successor club VfB Leipzig . In 1986 and 1987 he won the GDR soccer cup with 1. FC Lok . Bredow is a multiple GDR junior and young national player.

Athletic career

Uwe Bredow joined the 1. FC Lok youth team at the age of eight. In the 1981/82 season he had his first five appearances in the GDR league . In the following seasons he became a regular player in Leipzig. Until the setting of the GDR league in 1991 Bredow was used in 195 of a total of 260 league games played and scored 12 goals. In 1986 and 1987 he won the FDGB soccer cup with 1. FC Lok. In both finals he was a right midfielder on the field.

He achieved his greatest international success when he reached the final of the 1987 European Cup Winners' Cup with 1. FC Lok . In the 1-0 defeat against Ajax Amsterdam , Bredow was called up as the central midfielder. He made sure to reach the final with his goal to win the 1-0 away win in the second leg of the semi-final against Girondins Bordeaux . Bredow played a total of 27 European Cup games between 1983 and 1988.

Even after the restructuring of 1. FC Lok in 1991 in VfB Leipzig , Bredow stayed with the new club. With VfB, he first played in the 2. Bundesliga , in 1993 he succeeded with VfB promotion to the Bundesliga . There he made a total of 18 missions in 1993/94 and scored one goal. After the end of the season, Bredow ended his career as a professional player. He played a total of 281 point games for Lok and his successor and scored 13 goals.

Selection bets

As a junior player, he played eleven international matches with the GDR junior national team from 1979 and 1980 . At the last UEFA youth tournament, held in the GDR in 1980, he was part of the squad of the East German U-18s. The eleven failed in front of their own audience in the preliminary round.

Between September 1981 and February 1984 he was used in twelve international matches of the GDR youth national team . The GDR team did not make the quarter-finals within the U-21 European Championship in 1984 .

In addition, the Leipziger completed ten games with the GDR Olympic selection . Five of them, all in 1987, took place as part of the qualification for the 1988 Olympic football tournament in Seoul.

Further career

As a recreational footballer, Bredow played at SV Blau-Weiß Günthersdorf in 1995/96. He founded a fan shop, which mainly sold devotional items from 1. FC Lok / VfB.
