Víctor Manuel Estrada Garibay (born October 28, 1971 in Heroica Matamoros ) is a former Mexican Taekwondoin who is now active in politics .

Career

Estrada won numerous titles in his career, particularly at the continental level. From 1992 to 1998 he was Pan American champion four times in a row, first in the class up to 70 kilograms, then three times in the higher class up to 80 kilograms. During this period he also won several medals at the Pan American Games . In 1991 he won bronze in Havana , in 1995 in Mar del Plata and 1999 in Winnipeg, he won the gold medal. Also in 2003 in Santo Domingo he won gold again.

He also won the competition in the class up to 83 kilograms at the World Games in The Hague in 1993 . In the same year he won the silver medal in the same weight class at the World Championships in New York City . After successfully qualifying, he took part in his first Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , where he won the bronze medal in the class up to 80 kilograms after a quarter-final defeat against the eventual Olympic champion Ángel Matos and three subsequent wins in the round of hope. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , Estrada was also part of the Mexican delegation and came in fifth.

Estrada, a member of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional , has been Presidente municipal of the Municipio Cuautitlán Izcalli since 2015 .
