history

The Association of German Students in Halle-Wittenberg was founded on February 10, 1881 in the restaurant called "Goldenen Schiffchen". The aim of establishing the association was to stand out from the largely apolitical student body. At the beginning theologians dominated activitas . In addition to the VDSt associations from Berlin, Leipzig, Breslau, Göttingen, Greifswald and Kiel, the federal government was involved in the establishment of the Association of German Students' Associations (Kyffhäuser Association). With a total of around 800 students, the members of the VDSt Halle-Wittenberg came together on August 6, 1881 for the first Kyffhäuser Festival, on the occasion of which the VDSt groups present joined together to form the Association of German Student Associations (Kyffhäuserverband (KV)). On September 2, 1888, the old gentlemen's association was founded. In the years 1882/83, 1883/84, 1893/94, 1905/06, 192/29 and 1934/35 the federal government took over the suburb for the Association of German Students' Associations (Kyffhäuser Association).

In the summer semester of 1896, about two dozen members left the association in order to create the color-bearing and striking association Salingia. Despite this change in personnel, the association held the chairmanship of the association of non-colored students and the student committee in the winter semester of 1896/97. In 1897 the VDSt joined the Old German Association, the Colonial Society and the Ostmarkenverein .

In the summer semester of 1909, a home association was founded, which was supposed to take care of a parliament building and on August 17, 1910 decided to buy the house in Wettiner Straße. During the First World War it was possible to maintain the connection life, but the connection lamented 62 war deaths. During the First World War, the Federal Palace was made available to a military hospital . After the end of the First World War, the federal government joined the government troops and took part in the founding of the Hochschulring Deutscher Art .

In 1931 the VDSt Halle-Wittenberg counted 347 old men, 42 active and inactive students as well as 39 de-registered members and non-active inactive. In the summer of 1937, under pressure from the Nazi leadership, the VDSt Halle-Wittenberg merged with the “General Maercker” comradeship . While connections were able to be re-established in the West German occupation zones after the Second World War in the early 1950s, this was not possible under the Soviet occupation forces. In 1956 there were still 81 old men in the association. After negotiations with various associations, the old gentlemen's association joined the VDSt Münster in 1957. Both old gentlemen's associations merged on June 30, 1962 to form the VDSt Münster Halle-Wittenberg.

On December 7, 1990, the VDSt Halle-Wittenberg was re-established in Halle (Saale) with a Kommers with almost all of the old men still alive. The 110th association conference in Münster took the VDSt Halle-Wittenberg with 5 active students back into the association of German student associations . In October 1991, a new house was bought in the vineyards 30, which still serves as the connection's federal building. The parliament building on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße before the Second World War could not be repossessed. In 2009 the property could be expanded up to the Saale and the connection calls part of the oldest bathing establishment on the Saale its own. Even before the newly renovated boathouse could be inaugurated, the Saale stepped 8.10 m over the bank in the 2013 summer semester, flooded the premises of the Saale and caused severe damage.
