Vahle is a district of the city of Uslar in southern Lower Saxony with 250 inhabitants .

Vahle is located in the Northeim district on the southern foothills of the Solling . The core city of Uslar is 2 kilometers southwest, the two neighboring towns of Eschershausen and Dinkelhausen are each 1.5 kilometers away.

The district town of Northeim is 21 kilometers to the east as the crow flies, the next major city of Göttingen is 23 kilometers to the southeast. The state capital Hanover is located approx. 78 kilometers north of Vahle and Berlin 279 kilometers northeast (all information as the crow flies).

The place is at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level and is surrounded by meadows and fields. In the north, the densely forested Solling rises to over 500 meters.

history

The village is first mentioned in 1141 as "Valede". In a document from the State Archives in Hanover from May 18, 1488 it says u. a .: "... to the abbot and convent of the St. Blasii monastery in Northeim against a Vorwerk of 25 Hufen Landes with the bailiwick and the justice of the village of Vaelde near Uslar to the extent that the old documents show ...". Around 1590 there were 8 half-spouses , 18 Kötner and one house boy in Vahle .

Since March 1, 1974, the formerly independent community has been part of the then newly founded community of Uslar.

Economy and Infrastructure

There is only one side road through Vahle. The next motorway junctions are on the A 7 in Northeim, Nörten-Hardenberg and Göttingen. There are bus connections to Uslar and some surrounding towns.

There are no industrial companies in Vahle itself. Agriculture and forestry are also declining, so that the majority of the working population have to commute to the surrounding towns and cities. There is a manufacturer and distributor of wood products for heating, a heating construction company, a company that produces electronic control elements for heating construction and one that produces lighting, and a few other self-employed people .

Chapel and school building

The Evangelical Lutheran chapel in Vahle is an unadorned rectangular half-timbered building with a hipped roof . Today, the walls, like the hexagonal turret in the center, are hung with slate on the outside. The building was erected in 1792. The chapel room only takes up the western part of the house, the former school and the teacher's apartment are located in the east. Two copies of the unique regional collection of skulls are kept inside the chapel, most of which were brought to the Uslar local history museum.
