Val-d'Illiez is a political municipality and a civil parish in the Monthey district in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland . The place belongs to the Portes du Soleil ski area .

geography

The municipality of Val-d'Illiez is located in the Val d'Illiez on the Vièze , a western tributary of the Rhone . The political municipality of Val-d'Illiez includes the village of Val-d'Illiez and the two hamlets of Les Crosets and Champoussin, which are clearly distant from it . The municipality borders on Troistorrents to the north, Vérossaz to the east, Saint-Maurice to the southeast, Evionnaz to the south-southeast, Champéry to the south, Châtel ( Haute-Savoie department , France ) to the west and an exclave of the municipality to the north-northwest Monthey .

Attractions

Catholic parish church of St-Maurice, first mentioned in the 13th century, rebuilt in 1687. The single-nave building with a square choir is preceded by a partially medieval bell tower at the entrance. Inside there are 18th century altars from a local workshop.

The priory , built in 1711, stands next to the church .

Personalities

Joseph Mariétan (1874–1943), Abbot of Saint-Maurice, was born in Val-d'Illiez, and the ski racer Corinne Rey-Bellet (1972–2006) was born in the Les Crosets district .
