Valentín Garvie (* 1973 in Mar del Plata ) is an Argentine trumpeter who is at home in many musical genres.

Live and act

Garvie, whose father is a jazz trumpeter , began playing the trumpet at the age of eight. He first studied theory and composition with Marcelo Perticone in his hometown before moving to Buenos Aires in 1993 ; There he studied music at the Universidad Católica Argentina and graduated with a major in conducting. At the same time he studied the trumpet with Rafael Morelli. In addition to jazz (where he also worked as a trombonist), it played classical music (e.g. as the first trumpeter of the Orquestra Académica del Teatro Colón ), also in the field of historically informed performance practice (with zinc and natural horn ) and contemporary music (e.g. as a founding member of the Ensamble XXI ). From 1999 to 2001 Garvie studied trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Howard Snell and John Wallace, where he received the Principal's Prize as an "outstanding student".

Garvie has lived in Frankfurt since 2002 as a member of the Ensemble Modern , with whom he has participated in numerous productions, such as T. also appeared on phonograms, was involved. Since 2010 he has also been a member of the Hessischer Rundfunk jazz ensemble and the Crespo Brass Ensemble . Garvie teaches at the International Ensemble Modern Academy, at the Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos de Jordao in Brazil and regularly leads courses and master classes in Argentina.

Prizes and awards

In 2007 Garvie was honored with the title of Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. In 2012 he received the Jazz working grant from the city of Frankfurt. In 2015 he was awarded the Hessian Jazz Prize 2015 as a constant crossover between jazz and classical music .
