Valentin Vornicu (born June 13, 1983 in Bucharest ) is a professional Romanian - American poker player and mathematician . With twelve rings , he is one of the most successful players in the circuit tournaments of the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Personal

Vornicu grew up in Bucharest . He took part in the International Mathematical Olympiad for Romania in 2001 and 2002 and won a bronze medal in 2002. He then founded the education company MathLinks , which initially u. a. Should prepare students for the Mathematics Olympiad. The website's forum quickly became popular and merged with the Art of Problem Solving website in 2004 . Vornicu studied at the University of Bucharest and graduated in 2008 with a master's degree in algebra and number theory . He works as a math teacher and prepares his students for participation in the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad . Vornicu lives in San Diego .

Vornicu played online under the nicknames busto23 ( partypoker ) , mBlasterX ( PokerStars and Lock Poker) and Pupp3tMast3r ( Full Tilt Poker ) . Since 2011 he has been participating in renowned live tournaments .

Vornicu won a tournament at the WSOP circuit in Hammond in mid-October 2011 , securing his first ring and a prize of more than 50,000 US dollars . In June 2013 he was successful for the first time in the main tournament series of the World Series of Poker in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and came in the money in a tournament of the No Limit Hold'em variant . In mid-December 2015, Vornicu won the main event of the WSOP circuit in Los Angeles with a grand prize of almost $ 200,000. At the 2016 WSOP , he reached the seventh day of the tournament in the main event and finished 23rd there, which was paid for around $ 270,000. In mid-August 2017, Vornicu finished fourth at an event at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood and received around $ 80,000 in prize money.
