Vanessa Raw (born September 28, 1984 in Hexham ) is a former British duathlete , triathlete and member of the British Olympic Triathlon Academy Squad , who is now active as an academic artist.

Career

Vanessa Raw was successful in swimming in her youth and started in the national swimming federation between the ages of 9 and 14.

Triathlon professional since 2005

She has been a professional athlete since 2005 and in September 2006 she finished fourth in the U23 World Triathlon Championship.

After joining the international triathlon in 2006, Vanessa Raw had to contend with a knee injury and first had to find a balance between top sport, studies and artistic employment. In the five years from 2006 to 2010 she took part in 26 ITU competitions and achieved top ten places eight times, including three medals. Since 2009, after graduating from Loughborough University with a degree in art , Vanessa Raw was back on the ITU podium.

British duathlon champion 2013

In April 2013 she became British Duathlon Champion. In 2014 she switched from the short to the middle distance.

Since February 2015 Raw started for the Italian PPR team (formerly known as "Peperoncino Triathlon Team"). In May she came third at the European Championships in the middle distance triathlon in Rimini and in June she won her first middle distance victory at Ironman 70.3 Italy.

In October 2015 she started the Ironman distance for the first time and finished sixth in Barcelona.

Raw was trained by Tom Bennett and lives in Loughborough . In December 2016, the 32-year-old announced her withdrawal from professional sport for health reasons. You will now focus on the art.
