history

Varlosen was first mentioned in a forged document in the 12th century, which is dated to the year 1093. The place name there is "Vereldehusen". This is a deed of gift from Heinrich the Rich von Northeim to the newly founded Bursfelde Monastery . From 1291 to 1830, the Hilwartshausen monastery owned the tithe as a fiefdom , at that time by noble Mr. Conrad von Schöneberg . On June 21, 1298, Duke Albrecht II donated 2½ Hufen Landes zu Vereldehusen to the newly built St. Nikolai Church in Göttingen . Another transfer of ownership took place in 1374, when the councilors at Münden issued a certificate stating that Johann Siepel and his wife Gisela and their children "the small estate" in Varlose to the brothers Hermann and Johann, sons of Ludolph von Eschene, sold. At the beginning of the 19th century, Varlose became part of the Dransfeld canton, which in turn was incorporated into the Göttingen district. Later, after the Dransfeld canton was dissolved, Varlose came to the Münden office in which it was incorporated into the sub-office of the same name and at that time, around the middle of the 19th century, had around 419 residents and 75 houses. For the year 1860, the membership of Varlose to the Dransfeld office is documented.

On January 1, 1973 the municipalities of Varlose, Ellershausen near Münden, Imbsen and Löwenhagen were merged to form the new municipality of Niemetal.

Varlose coat of arms
Blazon : “A man dressed in gold (yellow) with silver (white) hair, face and hands, holding a slanting spear with a golden (yellow) shaft and silver (white) tip; a silver (white) goose between the legs. "
Justification of the coat of arms: Varlose is known as the birthplace of the 2.48 m tall "tall Christoffel". As a boy, Christoph Münster looked after the geese in the village and was the personal servant of Duke Christian Ludwig of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . The coat of arms figure corresponds to the portrait of the grave site.
