Verena Auffermann
Verena Auffermann (* 1944 in Höxter ) is a freelance journalist , literary critic , lecturer and editor with a focus on literature and art .
Life
Verena Auffermann completed an apprenticeship in bookselling and then worked in a publishing house. After studying art history , Auffermann volunteered at the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung in Heidelberg , where she then worked as an editor in the literature department.
As a literary critic she wrote, among other things, from 1981 to 1996 as a freelancer for the features section of the Frankfurter Rundschau . From 1984 to 2004 she was the culture correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung. She also worked for various features and cultural programs , including for Hessischer Rundfunk , Die Zeit , for the magazine Literaturen and for Deutschlandradio in Cologne and Berlin .
Auffermann took part in numerous radio and television discussions. She was a guest in the Literary Quartet and a regular participant in the SWR television program Literature in the foyer . From 1992 to 1996 she was a juror at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . Since 1994 she has been a moderator at the annual Erlanger Poetenfest . From 1997 to 2002 she taught as a lecturer in the advanced training program for book and media practice at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .
Together with Gunhild Kübler , Ursula März and Elke Schmitter , Auffermann published the literary anthology passionate in 2009 . 99 women authors of world literature . In short literary essays, Auffermann portrays 27 women writers from world literature , classifies their work in terms of literary history and draws connecting lines between different national literature. Auffermann writes about Herta Müller , Tania Blixen , Else Lasker-Schüler , Ilse Aichinger and Marie-Luise Kaschnitz, among others .
Auffermann was a member of the jury of the German Book Prize 2005 and chaired the jury for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize 2010, as well as a juror for the International Literature Prize from the House of World Cultures , Berlin, 2017 and 2018.
She has lived in Berlin as a freelance critic since 2004 .
