Veronika Zvařičová (born December 8, 1988 in Krnov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech biathlete .

Life

Zvařičová lives in Staré Město . The student initially started for KB Jilemnice , later for SKP Jymbolx , and is trained by Lenka Faltusová . She started biathlon in 2002 and has been a member of the Czech national team since 2006. She competed in her first international races in 2005 as part of the Biathlon European Cup in Obertilliach . In 2006 she took part in her first European Junior Championships in Langdorf and achieved a 28th place in the pursuit as the best result and was seventh in the relay. In 2007 she achieved her first top ten results in the European Junior Cup. The European Junior Championships in Bansko brought good results with ranks 18 in sprint and pursuit and ninth place in the individual. A year later was in Nové Město na Moravě place 14 in the individual best result in an individual race, with the relay around Veronika Vítková she won the silver medal behind the relay from Russia. The Junior World Championship in 2008 also went quite well for Zvaricova with 12th place in the individual, seven in the sprint and eight in the relay. In 2009 she won the relay race title with Vítková and Gabriela Soukalová at the Junior World Championships in Canmore .

Zvařičová has been competing in the adult division since 2008. She contested her first races as part of the IBU Cup in Obertilliach. In Oberhof she made her debut in a relay race in the biathlon world cup in 2009 and was eighth with the Czech team. At the World Championships in Pyeongchang, Veronika Zvařičová took 22nd place in the sprint, her best place in the World Cup so far. In the pursuit she was 36th and with the Czech relay she came in 12th. Zvařičová took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics, in the sprint she was 71. For the second time in a world championship, she could participate in 2012 in Ruhpolding . In individual she was 52nd, in the sprint 70th and with Veronika Vítková, Barbora Tomešová and Jitka Landová tenth in the relay race. In the 2012/13 season Zvařičová was able to reach the points for the first time since the 2009 World Cup as 34th of a sprint in Östersund at the beginning of the season . The best result ever was a third place achieved in the relay race in Ruhpolding with Vítková, Soukalová and Kristýna Černá . After 2012 in Osrblie as fourth place in the relay at the European Championships missed even one rank the medal ranks Zvařičová was in 2013 with Landová, Lea Johanidesová and Eva Puskarčíková win the silver medal with the Czech squadron on the anchor leg behind the German representative.

During the preparation for the season, Zvařičová was hit by a car in a traffic accident in May 2013 and seriously injured.

At the end of the 2017/18 season, she ended her career as a professional athlete.
