In the administrative community Hohe Rhön from the Thuringian Schmalkalden-Meiningen , the town have Kaltennordheim and four municipalities joined forces to do their administrative business.

The municipalities
history
The administrative association was founded on June 18, 1992 with its seat in Kaltensundheim. On January 1, 1997 the communities Frankenheim / Rhön and Unterweid were added. As part of the realignment of Thuringia in 2018 and 2019, the member municipalities were Aschenhausen , Kaltensundheim , Kaltenwestheim , Melpers , Oberkatz and Unterweid in the city on January 1, 2019 Kaltennordheim incorporated that from the Wartburgkreis in -Meiningen Schmalkalden district changed. The administrative community was expanded to include the city of Kaltennordheim; their administrative headquarters are also located there. Against the change of the city of Kaltennordheim to the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen, the Wartburg district submitted an urgent application to the Thuringian constitutional court, but this was rejected.
