history

Vetiver was founded in San Francisco in 2002 and is named after the Asian sweet grass of the same name . The central and only constant member is singer and songwriter Andy Cabic. In 2005 Cabic and the then guitarist Devendra Banhart founded the record label Gnomonsong, on which they not only publish their own album Thing of the Past but also recordings from indie pop bands and singer-songwriters .

In 2004 the band released their self-titled debut album. The group then went on tour and began working with Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom and establishing their own record company: Gnomonsong Recordings . In 2006 another album was released.

Other albums and tours followed, including a US tour with Vashti Bunyan in 2007 , as well as working with Fleet Foxes , The Shins , Fruit Bats and Wilco .

Cabic's music has been featured in numerous TV commercials, as well as in the documentary "The Family Jams" and the film Smashed , which participated in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
