Viktor Keldorfer (born April 14, 1873 in Salzburg , † January 28, 1959 in Vienna ) was an Austrian choir conductor , composer and the father of Robert Keldorfer .

biography

In his hometown, Keldorfer studied at the teacher training institute and at the Mozarteum . In 1892 he went to Vienna and from 1902 to 1921 was the director of the Vienna Men's Choir and from 1910 also its choir master. From 1922 to 1938 and from 1945 to 1952 he was choirmaster of the Wiener Schubertbund ; from 1938 to 1945 he was banned from working.

In 1928 he conducted choir associations of several thousand singers at the 10th German Choir Festival in Vienna's Prater .

Keldorfer was a founding member of the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers and from 1921 also its director.

In 1946 he was commissioned for the national anthem of Austria (probably composed by Paul Wranitzky ) the piano and choral setting to create, with Keldorfer emanated even mistaken it, the melody is by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed.

Viktor Keldorfer is buried in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 14C, number 19).
