The Vilque district is located in the Puno Province in the Puno Region in southern Peru . The district has an area of 195 km². The 2017 census counted 2996 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3101, in 2007 it was 3123. The seat of the district administration is the 3860 m high village of Vilque with 918 inhabitants (as of 2017). Vilque is located 26 km west-northwest of the regional and provincial capital Puno .
Geographical location
The Vilque district is located in the west of the Puno province. It is located on the western shore of Lake Umayo . The area is located in the catchment area of Lake Titicaca .
The district Vilque bordered on the west by the district Mañazo , in the northwest on the district Cabana ( province of San Román ), in the northeast on the district Atuncolla and to the east and the south by the district Tiquillaca .
