Vincenz Kollar

Vincenz Kollar (born January 15, 1797 in Kranowitz , † May 30, 1860 in Vienna ) was an Austrian zoologist , entomologist and publicist .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Leobschütz , he began studying medicine at the University of Vienna in 1815 , also dealt with zoology and then worked at the Hof-Naturalien-Cabinet in Vienna from 1817 . There he became custodian under Karl Franz Anton von Schreibers in 1835 and head of the zoological court cabinet in 1851 . In 1848 Vincenz Kollar became a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Zoological-Botanical Society in Vienna. He mainly devoted himself to researching and describing the exhibits from the Austrian expedition to Brazil .

Vincenz Kollar published over 50 scientific articles - in 1833 he took the first descriptions of the steppe bite under the generic name Locusta montana , the alpine mountain hideaway under the name Gryllus alpini (known today as Miramella alpini KOLLAR 1883) and the cave locust under the name Locusta ( known today as Troglophilus cavicola ).

In recognition of his scientific work, he received the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order and in 1858 he was appointed to the Privy Councilor.

After his death, Kollar was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 3) in an honorary grave.

Dedication names

Theodor Hartig named a gall wasp Andricus kollari after him - another gall wasp was named Cynips kollari . The name kollari was given several times by the spiders (Aranae) ; Dysera kollari Doblika 1853 , Kollars Scherenkanker: Ischyropsalis kollari , Red tube spider : Eresus kollari with six subspecies Eresus kollari frontalis , E. kollari bifasciatus , E. kollari ignicomus , E. kollari illustris , E. kollari latefasciatu , E. kollari tricolor .
