Vincenzo Moretti

Vincenzo Moretti (born November 14, 1815 in Orvieto , † October 6, 1881 in Bologna ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Vincenzo Moretti grew up as the son of Domenico Moretti and Elisabetta Mazzoni-Brancaleone in Orvieto, where he received the Sacrament of Confirmation on April 24, 1821 . Without ever having entered the order , Moretti studied first at the Jesuit college in Orvieto, and later, also in Orvieto, at the local seminary theology . Moretti was ordained a priest on September 22, 1838 .

His studies he finished at the Collegio Romano in Rome , first on May 31, 1844, when he in a first partial examination for doctor of theology doctorate was. Most recently he was on March 9, 1848 Doctor of Law , both in civil law and in questions of canon law ( Doctor iuris utriusque ).

Moretti was installed as a canon in the Orvieto Cathedral in the Diocese of Orvieto . On October 18, 1845 he took over the position of professor of the Holy Scriptures at the boys' seminary of Orvieto before he was appointed vicar general on December 30, 1848 .

On December 17, 1855 he was appointed bishop of Comacchio . He was ordained bishop on January 13, 1856 in Rome by Cardinal Costantino Patrizi Naro ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Antonio Ligi Bussi , Vice-mentor of Rome, and Archbishop Gregorio Bizzarri , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars . Moretti took over three other dioceses as bishop after Comacchio. On May 23, 1860, he moved to the diocese of Cesena as bishop, to the diocese of Imola on March 27, 1867 and finally to the archbishopric of Ravenna on October 27, 1871 .

As early as September 13, 1863, Moretti became a personal advisor to Pope Pius IX. called. This accepted him in his last consistory on December 28, 1877 in the college of cardinals . Cardinal Moretti died three years later, just weeks before his 66th birthday. After being laid out in the Church of San Martino in Bologna, the remains were buried in a grave in the Bologna cemetery.
