Vitório Pavanello

Vitório Pavanello SDB (born January 20, 1936 in Presidente Getúlio , Santa Catarina , Brazil) is a Brazilian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Campo Grande .

Life

On February 27, 1949 Vitório Pavanello entered the seminary of Ascurra in Santa Catarina . He decided to join the religious community of the Salesians of Don Bosco . From 1957 to 1959 he studied English and German literature and philosophy at the Salesian Faculty of Philosophy, Science and Literature in Lorena . From 1963 to 1966 he studied theology at the Theological Institute of Pius XI. in São Paulo . On July 31, 1966, he was ordained a priest there .

From 1967 to 1970 he was the director of studies and responsible for school pastoral care in the religious community, and from 1971 to 1975 director of the Lyceum Coração de Jesus in São Paulo. In 1975 and 1976 he worked at the São Manuel seminary in Lavrinhas . In 1977 he was director of the Salesian Novitiate and Seminary in Pindamonhangaba for one year . From 1978 to 1981 he was director of the Educandário São Carlos, where he was also master novice and vice-cooperator of the parish of Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora .

On November 26th, 1981 he was appointed Bishop of Corumbá by Pope John Paul II . On January 31, 1982, the Archbishop of Campo Grande, Antônio Barbosa SDB in São Carlos donated his episcopal ordination . Co-consecrators were the former bishop of Corumbá, Ladislau Paz SDB, and the coadjutor bishop of São Carlos , Constantino Amstalden . His motto is: Pro Ovibus Meis .

On November 26, 1984, he was appointed coadjutor of the Archbishop of Campo Grande . He followed on December 12, 1986 as a result of Barbosa's retirement as Archbishop.

From 1983 to 1988 he was President of the CNBB Region Extremo-Oeste . As a delegate he took part in the Conference of Santo Domingo and in 1997 in the Special Assembly of the Synod of American Bishops, convened by Pope John Paul II.

On May 4, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. Vitório Pavanello's motion to resign from the office of Archbishop of Campo Grande for reasons of age.
