Pedro Fré

Pedro Fré CsSR (born August 30, 1924 in Cerquilho , † April 3, 2014 in Aparecida ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Barretos .

Life

Pedro Fré entered the Seminary of St. Alphonsus of the Redemptorists in Aparecida on April 7, 1938 . In 1945, he joined himself to the Congregation of the Redemptorists in and did his novitiate in Pindamonhangaba from. He made his profession on February 2, 1946 . After studying philosophy and theology at the seminary Seminário Santa Teresinha in Tiete which received on 27 December 1950 in Tietê ordination by José Carlos de Aguirre , Bishop of Sorocaba .

From 1953 to 1970 he was pastor of Aparecida. He was Rector of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Aparecida from 1965 to 1967 and 1979 to 1984 . The Marian shrine is home to the second largest basilica in the world, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, “Our Lady of Aparecida” (Basílica de Nossa Senhora Aparecida), patroness of Brazil.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Corumbá on October 28, 1985 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil , Archbishop Carlo Furno donated to him on 5 January 1986 in the Basilica of Aparecida , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Geraldo María de Morais Penido , Archbishop of Aparecida , and Ladislau Paz SDB , Bishop Emeritus of Corumbá. His episcopal motto was "Curar os corações feridos" ( Heal the wounded heart ).

On December 2, 1989, he was appointed Bishop of Barretos. On December 20, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
