The Vitsentzos Kornaros was a ferry of the Greek LANE Lines , which entered service in 1976 as Viking Viscount for the British shipping company Townsend Thoresen . It was in service between Piraeus and Agios Nikolaos from 1994 to June 2017 .
history
The Viking Viscount was built under hull number 208 in Aalborg Værft in Aalborg and was launched on November 7, 1975. After its delivery to Townsend Thoresen, the ship began the ferry service between Felixstowe and Zeebrugge on May 18, 1976 .
In May 1986 the Viking Viscount switched to the route from Southampton to Cherbourg . After Townsend Thoresen went bankrupt and dissolved, it was taken over by P&O European Ferries. In May 1989 the ship was named the Pride of Winchester . It was used between Dover and Calais between September and December 1989 .
After a brief operation between Portsmouth and Cherbourg in July 1994, the Pride of Winchester went to the Greek LANE Lines under the name Vitsentzos Kornaros . From then on she was in use between Piraeus and Agios Nikolaos on Crete . Since June 2007 it has also been calling at Milos , Santorin , Sitia , Kasos , Karpathos , Diafani and Rhodes .
On October 10, 2011, the Vitsentzos Kornaros collided with the European Express ferry in the port of Piraeus , damaging both ships. In June 2017 she suffered a mechanical breakdown and was followed by Perama transferred, where they then rested . On April 13, 2020, the ship arrived in Aliağa for demolition.
Sister ships
The Vitsentzos Kornaros had three sister ships, the Viking Venturer , the Viking Valiant and the Viking Voyager .
