Vlad Țepeș (outdated Bărăganul Nou ) is a municipality in Călărași County in Wallachia , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Vlad Țepeş in Călăraşi County

The municipality of Vlad Țepeş is located in the Wallachian Plain ( Câmpia Română ) in the historical region of Great Wallachia . In Bărăgan on the national road ( Drum național ) DN 3, about ten kilometers south of the Romanian A2 - part of the European route 81 -, the place Vlad Țepeș is 30 kilometers northwest of the district capital Călărași ; the Romanian capital Bucharest is located about 100 kilometers west of Vlad Țepeș.

There are no flowing waters on the area of the municipality. The water is supplied from the 24-hectare pond near the incorporated village of Mihai Viteazu , or from the 0.5–20 meter deep wells.

history

The incorporated village of Mihai Viteazu with the outdated name Bărăganul was first recorded in 1857-1858 in the center of the plains of the same name . The present-day place Vlad Țepeș was only created in 1893 under the name Bărăganul Nou and was part of the now incorporated village for ten years, until in 1903 the place Vlad Țepeș was appointed the community center.

population

In 2002 there were 2619 inhabitants in the community. 2,616 of them were Romanians and three described themselves as Turks . At the 2011 census, 2,336 people were counted in 1,205 households in the municipality of Vlad Țepeș. 2087 were Romanians, 80 were Roma and the rest were registered without any ethnic information.

The main occupation of the population is livestock and agriculture.
