The Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig is a multi-purpose hall in the large city of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony . She is u. a. designed for sporting events, concerts, TV productions and congresses and is located on Europaplatz . The hall on the edge of the Bürgerpark and the Oker was opened in September 2000 and expanded in 2006. The hall is named after the Volkswagen (abbreviation VW ), the core brand of Volkswagen AG .

The hall before the renovation (2005)

On July 14th, 1998, the “Sports and Culture Foundation for Braunschweig” was established for the construction of a multi-purpose hall on Europaplatz. The laying of the foundation stone took place on September 20, 1999 in the presence of 350 guests, the opening took place a year later on September 20, 2000 with a show with 6000 visitors.

From the beginning of summer until the end of autumn 2006 the event hall was rebuilt and enlarged by approx. 2000 m². The VIP area was enlarged considerably by the extension and attempts were made to make the foyer more attractive. In addition, 4 VIP boxes were installed in the hall. The renovation took place in order to increase the attractiveness of the hall and to withstand the growing competitive pressure of other more modern halls.

The hall is the venue for the home games of the basketball Bundesliga team Basketball Löwen Braunschweig . In addition to the games of the Basketball Bundesliga , the Basketball Supercup (tournament with the German national team and three other national teams), an indoor soccer tournament, a handball tournament and the HBL All-Star Game 2005 , encounters in the Davis Cup , several professional boxing matches, etc. have also taken place so far . a. by Dariusz Michalczewski and Vitali Klitschko , a WWE - Wrestling -Veranstaltung and dance tournaments. In addition to sporting events and concerts , the hall was also used for the annual breakdance festival " Battle of the Year " from 2001 to 2009 . The 133rd edition of the television show Wetten, dass ..? was produced here on January 26th, 2002, the show was hosted a second time on November 7th, 2009. The program "Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel" has been broadcast from Braunschweig since 2010. Owner and operator

With effect from June 30, 2014, the building rights of the hall were transferred from the previous owner, the Sports and Culture Foundation for Braunschweig, to the Stadthalle Braunschweig Betriebsgesellschaft mbH. The leasehold contract runs until the end of 2112.

Around 94.8 percent of the operating company is owned by the city of Braunschweig Beteiligungs-Gesellschaft mbH (SBBG), a wholly owned subsidiary of the city. The city holds the remaining shares directly.
