The Scheidlinge ( Volvariella ) are a genus of mushrooms from the family of the roof mushroom relatives .

The type species is Volvariella argentina .

features

In Scheidlingen the membranous volva at the base of the handle is characteristic.

The Scheidlinge are small to large leaf mushrooms with a central, ringless stem , which are usually white, gray or brownish in color. Characteristic of the genus is the Velum universale , which remains as a protruding, membranous volva at the base of the stem. The lamellae are free, the spore powder and with it the ripe lamellae are colored pink , as with the related roof mushrooms .

ecology

The divorced people are saprobiontic inhabitants of wood, detritus and earth. The parasitic Scheidling grows on the fruiting bodies of the fog cap and other leaf mushrooms.

species

The genus of Scheidlinge includes around 50 species worldwide, of which 10-11 occur in Europe, depending on the view.

Systematics

Based on molecular biological findings, the Große Scheidling has been listed in the independent genus Volvopluteus together with the non-European species V. asiaticus , V. earlei and V. michiganensis since 2011 . Translated into German, the common name would be "Volvadachpilze". The name refers to the fruiting bodies, which in addition to the external characteristics of a roof mushroom ( Pluteus ) also have a sack-like covering (Volva) at the base of the stem.

meaning

Some species of Scheidling, such as the Great Scheidling, are edible, while the Dark-striped Scheidling is grown as a rice straw mushroom for food purposes.
