Careful step! is the third solo album by the German rapper F.R. It was released on June 13, 2008 on the DEAG Music GmbH label . The distribution of the album was taken over by Warner Music Group Germany GmbH .

background

After FR had released his first two albums Das Mundwerk in 2004 and Mittelweg in 2006 on the Paderborn-based independent label Rec.On , he switched to DEAG . As a reason, FR cited a lack of perspective at his former label and the opportunities DEAG, as Germany's largest concert organizer, offers him with regard to concert tours. Careful step! was released on June 13, 2008. At the time of the album's release, FR was 18 years old.

Careful step! appeared in a standard version, which includes 18 titles, as well as a special edition of the website Mzee.com. On top of this are the four additional pieces Balance , Werewolf , Graduate Engineer, and Beware of Level! to find.

singing

As is usual in hip-hop music, FR presents its lyrics as rap , a variant of spoken song . For the track Alles was ich haben , the hip-hop musician also used melodic vocals to reinforce the hookline . Two rappers guest posts on Caution Level! . These are Olli Banjo and Ercandize . The Mzee.com edition also features Leon Taylor , who achieved greater fame in 2010 through his participation in the Our Star for Oslo show , on Balance and Casper and Phreaky Flave on Werewolf .

In addition to the rap contributions, so-called backing vocalists are used in other tracks , who support the main voice performed by FR. Lena M. provided the accompanying background vocals for the songs Melodie des Leben and Standstill . Lena M. also has a speaking role in the title Rap is my fetish . Background vocals , sung by Ebru , are also used in the piece Grenzlos . Additional singing, which does not serve to reinforce the rapper's voice, but instead presents its own text alongside it, is also used in the title Never seen , which was contributed by Lemonia.

production

FR raps his lyrics on hip-hop beats, the musical background typical of this genre, which was produced by various musicians for the publication. The main producers are the Beatgees, who make the titles Jag 'up the ground , Rap needs high school graduation , Melody of life , Growing up , Rap is my fetish , peace of mind , Gladly like me , Lost Souls , Phantom the Poser , Das F and The R , limitless , never seen and standstill produced and mixed as well as co-produced the piece Kopf gegen Herz and mixed Flucht to you . The contact with the Beatgees had come about when the hip-hop producers asked FR for a rap contribution as part of the creation of their first mixtape and had sent him beats. Since the rapper liked the work of the Beatgees, he suggested a further collaboration for his album.

As a further producer, zwieback appears, who provided the background music for the tracks Prison and Geister und Demonen. FR and zwieback met through the Reimliga Battle Arena , an internet platform for hip-hop battles. Chrizmatic also produced the songs Kopf gegen Herz and Flucht zu dir and Brisk Fingaz contributed the beat to Alles was ich haben .

Most of the cuts were done by DJ CSP. The titles concerned are Jag 'the terrain , Rap needs high school graduation , Growing up , Glad like me , Lost Souls , Phantom of the Poser , The F and the R , Limitless and Never Seen . Cut Concept also edited the title Melody of Life . The final mastering of the album was done by Sascha "Busy" Bühren.

criticism

The reception of the album in the media was positive. An example of this is the review of the Internet portal E-Zine /Laut.de, which was added to the album Caution, Level! gave four out of a possible five evaluation points. In his review, editor Philipp Gässlein praised the album as “ versatile, intelligent, varied, entertaining and technically extremely well-versed ”. In particular, the texts are highlighted positively and the comparison to the rapper Curse is drawn. The negative aspects of the sound carrier from Gässlein's point of view are the hooklines sung by FR , the productions of the Beatgees and the rapper's voice, which “ still [sounds] as if his voice broke ”.

The editors of the website Rap.de praises the title Never seen as a " highlight " and highlights the " incredible eloquence ", the FR in the play The F and R presented. The few guest posts on caution, level! but are considered less interesting compared to the solo songs. Furthermore, Rap.de judges Rap needs the Abitur as “rap technically at a high level”, but the content presented is “a matter of taste ”. Finally, the criticism goes into the beats, which are particularly suitable for the rapper's lecture. In contrast to Laut.de, the Beatgees' productions are also praised.

In a further evaluation by the German hip-hop magazine Juice , the sound carrier received 4.5 out of a possible six “crowns”. In particular, FR's rap technique is praised. This playfully alternates between “half, normal, double and tripletime” and adjusts the speed of the presentation to the message and the content of the song. The common title with Olli Banjo spirits and demons raises Juice produced as "absolute highlight". The pieces on caution, level! are characterized by "musical and melodic" beats that are adapted to the respective "degree of intensity" of the piece. Nevertheless, the slight variation in the productions is noted. Finally, the editor explains that FR does not have a distinctive voice like Kool Savas , Samy Deluxe , Azad or Curse. Nevertheless, he could make it to the top through "technology, content, style and demands."
