Vroudenspil (pronounced: Freudenspiel, from mhdt. Vröuden-spil , something like "pastime, entertainment") is a German folk band from Munich , which consists of eight members.

history

Founded in 2005 in Rosenheim by Propagandapirat Lump and Dax vom Berg, the preform of Vroudenspil was initially created as a two-person group looking for new members. After Käpt'n Rapit, Freibeuter Petz and Phyra joined the band in 2006, the “Formatio Vroudenspîl” began to interpret traditional songs in their own style.

After about a year of existence in this formation, the band's first public appearances followed with the recording of Ratz von der Planke in 2006. With Brabantus on the djembe , but without Captain Rapit, the recordings for the first demo CD Flibustier were made in 2007 . Since about this time the formation began to play self-composed songs instead of traditional pieces and to move from medieval market music to rock folk music. This change is seen as the founding of the band Vroudenspil as it exists today. In the following time, the performances at various festivals increased. In addition, Gomorrah the animal joined the band as a drummer. A little later, Propaganda Pirate Lump left the group.

In the fall of 2008, the recordings for the debut album Lunte smelled began , which was finally released in March 2009. After the release, the group continued their appearances at various events throughout Germany, Switzerland and Austria, for example at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen , the Festival-Mediaval (Selb), the Tanzt! -Festival (Kufstein) and at the StuStaCulum and the medieval Christmas market in Munich.

In autumn 2009, work began on a new album. At the same time, 4-Finger-Jane joined the band on the electric bass, the electric bass was vacant before this innovation. At the end of 2009 Gomorrah (drums) left the band; Vroudenspil has found a successor in "the Kraken".

In the summer of 2010 the band played at various festivals all over Germany, including again at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, the Umsonst und Außen Festival (Stuttgart), the Schlosshof Festival (Höchstadt / Aisch), the Burgfolk Festival (Mülheim / Ruhr , Broich Castle), the Folklorum Festival (near Görlitz, Kulturinsel Einsiedel) and the Tanzt! -Festival (Kufstein).

At the end of 2010 there was another member change when Brabantus left the band and was replaced by "Flosse, the ninth arm" on accordion and percussions.

On March 31, 2011, the second album Dead Narren was released , which was presented on March 19, 2011 at the release party in Rosenheim.

In 2011 the band made appearances in Germany, Austria and Denmark, among other things as support for last instance . Vroudenspil played at the Feuertanz-Festival, again at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and the Tanzt! -Festival (Munich) and at various other events.

In April 2012 "Flosse, der ninth Arm" left the band for another project. In its place came the "sea wolf", which has since taken over the accordion and percussions.

In 2012 the band had some successes and, in addition to appearances in Germany (Schlosshof Festival, Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum (Dortmund), Tanzt! in autumn in the Netherlands (Elf-Fantasy Fair, Arcen).

Shortly before the band's 5-year existence, the band announced a third album in September 2012, which was released on April 19, 2013 under the name Pulverdampf . The release concert was followed in 2013 by a tour through Germany (including Medieval Fantasy Spectaculum (Hamburg-Öjendorf, Borken, Weeze), Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Feuertanz-Festival, Piraten Tage (Rügen), Pirates-Festival (Jülich), Met- Bar (Lenzburg, CH), Tanzt! -Festival (Munich)).

In September 2013, “4-Finger-Jane” decided to end her engagement with Vroudenspil for personal reasons. Her successor "Zora" has since taken over the role of bass and vocals. In contrast to “4-Finger-Jane”, Zora plays on an electric double bass .

At the beginning of July 2015 the band recorded their fourth studio album Fauler Zauber at the Great Hall Studio in Ebermannstadt . Simon Michael ( Subway to Sally ) is jointly responsible for the production .

In spring 2016, the band announced that Ratz von der Planke would leave the band at the end of the year for professional reasons. In the winter of 2016 the band did the so-called "Fauler Winterzauber Tour" with a fire tail and was part of the Ice Holy Night 2016.

Since April 2017 Vroudenspil have been with "Don Santo" on vocals and "Absolem" on guitar, but without "Zora" on bass, who also left the band in August 2017 for professional reasons.

style

The band itself describes their style as buccaneer folk - a mixture of folk rock , music from the medieval scene and ska . Vroudenspil wants to play music "which is so modern that everyone wants to rock out and dance along", but at the same time it should be so timeless that the "essence of the feelings of that era seems so close, as if it could be directly experienced".

Due to the lack of electric guitars and the lack of borrowings from hard rock or heavy metal, for example, the band is generally not assigned to medieval rock , but since they often appear together with representatives of this genre at festivals, they are partially recognized by the media attributed to this style.
