The Wörner is a 2474  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Karwendel on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol . It is located in the northern Karwendel range , which swings to the east on the Wörner from the southwest. The northwest ridge of the Wörner is quite distinctive and easily recognizable from many other peaks in the region.

The first ascent was probably made in 1853 during the Austrian triangulation from the south ( Karwendeltal , Großkar); later by Hermann von Barth (1870), also from the south (II, brittle, last exposed).

Today the mountain is mostly climbed through the western flank. The normal route begins at the Wörnersattel ( 1989  m above sea  level ), which can be reached from Mittenwald via the Hochlandhütte ( 1623  m above sea level ) or, alternatively, the Verein Alm (bicycle depot at 1430  m above sea level ): initially less difficult, but long and steep ascent through rocky terrain, from a crossing at 2330  m above sea level. NHN a climbing point (II−), partly exposed.

A whole series of hooks that remained in the rock shows that in the past climbing sections at risk of falling were insured by rope railings during inspections by units of the Mittenwald mountain troops . For a long time the path was only marked by Steinmandl and a few arrows, and orientation was difficult, especially on the descent. However, the path has been continuously marked since 2002.

From the summit you can see the Karwendel valley and the Hinterautal-Vomper chain from the Pleisenspitze to the Birkkarspitze ; the Schöttelkarspitze and Soiernspitze are very close to the north , which means that the view in this direction is limited.

Trivia

On July 9, 1985, then Defense Minister Manfred Wörner climbed the summit of the same name accompanied by Mittenwald mountain guides.
