history

The founders of the cooperative in 1898

The foundation stone of the credit institute was laid on December 1, 1898 as the "Eisenberger District Buying and Sales Cooperative" in Corbach. 42 members joined together to form the cooperative. Wilhelm Conradi from Helmscheid, Eduard Emde from Mühlhausen, Eduard Pohlmann from Corbach, Wilhelm Brühne-Antons from Adorf and Karl Welteke from Lelbach formed the first board of directors. Five years later the company was first renamed "Central- Buying and Sales Cooperative for Waldeck-Pyrmont - Kornhaus Corbach".

In 1923, a credit institute, the “Bank der Landwirte AG”, was founded to supplement the movement of goods and products. The subsidiary's job was to provide the farmers with loans. In the following years up to 1926 the catchment area was extended to a radius of approx. 60 kilometers around Korbach. In addition to the Warburger Land, the Sauerland , Wittgensteiner Land , Edertal up to z. T. Schwalm (Eder) .

The cooperative now consisted of around 15,000 members in 49 districts and over 900 localities. In 1928 53 grain houses were maintained.

Office area around 1930

During National Socialism, the business areas of the cooperatives were redistributed in order to "create a unified German state". The "Bank of the Farmers" was dissolved and parts of the goods business were transferred to the "Agricultural Selling and Sales Company Hessenland".

In 1936 the business area only included the former Waldeck districts of the Eisenberg and the Twiste as well as neighboring areas. 2,850 members now belonged to the new "Hauptgenossenschaft Korbach". The balance sheet total at that time was 4.8 million Reichsmarks. Only a few of the numerous granaries survived to the cooperative.

After the chaos of war, the first annual report showed an opening balance of 1.2 million D-Marks with 2,715 members. In the General Assembly of March 1952 it was decided to add the addition “Landbank” to the previous company name in order to make the corporate purpose as a credit institute clearer to the outside world.

In 1963 the fifth and, for the time being, the last name change to "Waldecker Bank eG", which was also intended to express the bond with the region.

Over the years, other banks have joined the Waldecker Bank:
