Wallbach is a district of the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen in the Franconian south of Thuringia .

geography

Wallbach is a street village between Walldorf, which also belongs to Meiningen, and Metzels in the front rhön . To the east of the village lies the dominant, extinct volcanic mountain Dolmar .

history

Wallbach was first mentioned in a document in 1230 . The place belonged to the Würzburg exclave Meiningen until 1480 and during this time it came to the Hennberg office of Wasungen . From 1500 the place belonged to the Franconian Empire and came to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen in 1680 . Until the division of the county Henneberg in 1660, jurisdiction was still on the centering running Meiningen, only then the place came to court Wasungen . Wallbach was persecuted by witches from 1603 to 1612 : Ten women got into witch trials and were burned.

From 1995 to 2018 Wallbach was part of the administrative community Wasungen-Amt Sand . On March 21, 2018, the municipal council decided to voluntarily integrate into the city of Meiningen as part of the Thuringia regional reform in 2018 and 2019 . The contract was signed on May 15, 2018. With the publication of the law on the reorganization of the municipalities in 2019 in the Free State of Thuringia, Wallbach was incorporated as a district of the city of Meiningen on January 1, 2019.

District Council

The district council of Wallbach is made up of four councilors from the SPD-Free Voters community, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 . The Wallbacher Stephan Wenzel represents as a parliamentary group member of the SPD Wallbach in the city council of Meiningen. The district administration is located in Wallbach in the community center at Untere Hauptstraße 94.

District Mayor

Thomas Hartung was elected honorary mayor on June 27, 2004 and became mayor of the district on January 1, 2019.
