Walter Mik

Walter L. Mik (born May 15, 1951 in Dinslaken ) is a former German academic music director and was head of the former forum for cultural cooperation at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

Life

education

Walter L. Mik received his musical training at the Duisburg Comprehensive University , as well as the Duisburg ( Folkwang University in the Ruhr Area ) and Düsseldorf ( Robert Schumann University ) conservatories in the subjects of cello and singing . Further training took place at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and through master classes with Helmuth Rilling , Manfred Schreier, Laslo Heltay and others. He continued his conducting training at the Arnhem Conservatory ( ArtEZ ) in the Netherlands with Joop Schets.

Professional career

Walter L. Mik's professional career took him to various parts of Germany as a music school director , including as director of the choir and music school for the Hof Symphony Orchestra in Bavaria . In 1990 he was finally appointed academic music director of the Collegium Musicum at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . Until 2012 he was responsible for the work with the large symphony orchestra and choir of the university. In recent years he has performed with these ensembles in Bonn , Cologne and other cities in Germany as well as on numerous concert tours in over twenty countries, including being the world's first orchestra in North Korea . In addition, during this time he was invited to conduct various amateur and professional ensembles in Bulgaria , Belarus , Poland , the USA , the Netherlands, Cyprus , Egypt and Palestine .

His work has now been documented by several CD recordings. Particularly noteworthy are recordings with the Requiem by Johannes Brahms , the first recording of the Bonn symphonies by Joseph Touchemoulin and medieval music from Cyprus. In addition to his duties in Bonn, Walter L. Mik was a teacher at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and several times as a visiting professor at the “Cairo Conservatoire”.

Lately, collaborations with the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Palestine have taken up a great deal of space and led to a major project with the Palestinian youth orchestra and the orchestra of Bonn University in Ramallah , Jerusalem , Haifa , Amman and Damascus .

In 2008, together with students and lecturers, he founded the now closed forum for cultural cooperation at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, which has since initiated, advised and supported cooperation projects between student cultural groups .

In addition to full-time musical activities, appearances as reciter have recently become more important. Programs on the subject of Dadaism , melodrama and other poetry , always in connection with music, characterize this work.
