In his dissertation, supervised by Robert Spaemann , The Overcoming of Metaphysics. At one end of modern philosophy , Schweidler deals with the distinction between metaphysical and philosophical thinking. In four exemplary investigations of the metaphysical critiques by Rudolf Carnap , Oswald Spengler , Ludwig Wittgenstein and Martin Heidegger , he elaborates the characteristics of philosophical “intellectual power”.

His main research interests are contemporary and modern approaches to ethics and political philosophy ; Legal philosophy and theory of human rights ; Phenomenology , the philosophy of Heidegger in the context of the main currents of the 20th century ; Metaphysics and metaphysics criticism; Intercultural philosophy and bioethics . Fraser accepted him into the International Society for the Study of Time, to whose International Council he has been a member since 2016. The collaboration with the Hermann and Marianne Straniak Foundation enabled him to hold a number of international symposia on the philosophical exchange between East Asian, mainly Buddhist, and Western thinkers between 1996 and 2008. Schweidler's philosophical development in these contexts is the common denominator the topic of time, on which he presented a systematic collection of contributions that have emerged over several decades in the book Das Uneinholbaren , which was published by Alber in 2008.
