Warwick Brown (born December 24, 1949 in Sydney ) is a former Australian automobile racing driver .

Career

Warwick Brown made a career in motorsport outside of Formula 1 , where his roots lay: in Australia and New Zealand and later in the United States . Initial successes with a used Formula 5000 McLaren made it possible for Brown to buy a Lola T300 in order to enter the Tasman series with it in 1973 . A serious accident in Surfers Paradise put an abrupt end to the first ambitions. Brown broke both legs and spent three months in the hospital.

In 1974 he returned and celebrated his first win in the Tasman series in the final race in Adelaide. Brown went to the US and became a top driver in the US Formula 5000 Championship and CanAm series in the 1970s. In 1975 he drove again in the Tasman series and won the overall standings.

He was seen only once at the start of a Formula 1 Grand Prix. In 1976 he drove for Walter Wolf and his team Walter Wolf Racing the Grand Prix of the USA East in Watkins Glen . With five laps behind, only the disappointing 14th place remained - during the race the Australian had to contend with two failed gears and problems with the rear brakes.
