Wenzel Eliatschek , nobilized with von Siebenburg in 1834 , raised to baron in 1851 (born April 29, 1779 in Sibiu ( Transylvania ), † May 19, 1871 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal .

Life

Wenzel Eliatschek was the son of a soldier, attended the siege of Belgrade as a boy and received his education in the education center of the 49th Infantry Regiment. From this institution he joined the imperial army on June 15, 1796 as a commoner, distinguished himself several times in the battles of the coalition wars of the following years, for example at Waldsee, Elzach , Waldkirch , Hüningen, Ostrach , Stockach , on the Luziensteige, in Graubünden , at the Zollbrücke near Mayenfeld, near Neffels and Molio, in the battle on the Ursulaberg in Switzerland, then at the blockade at Braunau, and became an ensign on September 1, 1805 and because of distinction in the battle of Austerlitz on December 3, 1805 promoted to lieutenant .

He was raised to lieutenant colonel on March 1, 1809. He then demonstrated his courage in the battles near Landshut and Ebelsberg and during the enclosure of Vienna and Aspern . In the last-mentioned military dispute he showed himself to be so capable that this earned him the appointment of captain on May 23, 1809 . As such he fought with distinction at Wagram , Korneuburg and Znaim , in 1813 near Dresden , then at Augustenburg, Kösen and Hochheim , in 1814 near Brienne , Bar-sur-Aube and Arcis-sur-Aube, and in southern France in 1815.

In 1821 Eliatschek took part in the expedition against Piedmont , in 1824 and 1825 in the one against Naples and was promoted to major on March 6, 1828 and colonel on February 20, 1832 . From 1832 to 1838 he commanded the 14th kuk infantry regiment . He was raised to the nobility on August 11, 1834 with the addition of von Siebenburg's name and promoted to major general on May 7, 1838 . Since 1838 he was in Tyrol . His services there, especially in the eventful year 1848, in which he made a major contribution to the proper functioning of the military apparatus in the hinterland and to the maintenance of peace, were recognized in his appointment as field marshal lieutenant on January 27, 1849, and in his uprising in 1851 in the baron class .

After 54 years of service under the four Austrian monarchs Leopold II , Franz II./I. , Ferdinand I. and Franz Joseph I. Eliatschek took his leave of active professional life in 1850 and since then has lived in the city of Innsbruck, of which he was declared an honorary citizen on May 1, 1849. He died here in 1871 at the age of 92.
