Life

biography

Wenzel Trnka von Krzowitz was born on October 16, 1739 in Tabor in Bohemia. He studied medicine in Prague and Vienna . In 1769, on the recommendation of Gerard van Swieten (1700–1772), the Dutch personal physician Maria Theresa of Austria, he was employed in the military hospital in Vienna. In 1770 he was awarded the doctorate for his work "De morbo coxario". In the same year he was appointed to the professorship for anatomy at the University of Tyrnau , now Trnava , but this was dissolved in 1777. Wenzel Trnka was transferred to Ofen, today's Buda , and in 1784 received the chair of pathology at the University of Pest . He died on May 12, 1791.

Medical work

Wenzel Trnka mainly dealt with medical-historical topics and published works on the history of amaurosis , leucorrhea , ophthalmia , cardialgia , rickets , tympanitis and hemorrhoids as well as tetanus and diabetes .

Musical work

In addition to his work as a doctor, Wenzel Trnka von Krzowitz occupied himself with music and composed several pieces of music. He was friends with Gottfried van Swieten , the son of Gerard van Swieten and patron Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . He wrote at least 61 canons based on the specifications of Pietro Metastasio . Fifteen years after his death, two series with twelve canons each were published, probably by his wife Therese and her future husband Franz Stadler, who sang as tenor for the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna .

In 1988 the musicologist Wolfgang Plath discovered that the melodies of two canons previously attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart came from Wenzel Trnka von Krzowitz. These are the canons Tu sei gelosa, è vero ( KV 233 (382d)), alienated by Mozart as Lick my ass fine, pretty clean , and When the heat in summer I eat , in the original So che vanti un cor ingrato .
