Vera Yevgenevna Dushevina ( Russian Вера Евгеньевна Душевина ; born October 6, 1986 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian tennis player .
Career
Wera Duschewina started playing tennis at the age of seven under the guidance of her father. She has been a professional player since 2003.
In 2002 she won the junior title at Wimbledon with a final victory over Maria Sharapova . In 2005 she reached in Eastbourne at the International Women's Open her first final on the WTA Tour , which she lost to Kim Clijsters . From 2004 to 2011 she was among the top 100 in the individual world rankings .
Duschewina was also part of the Russian Fed Cup team , which defeated France 3-2 in the 2005 finals in Paris . In the same year she was at the doubles competition at Wimbledon in the quarterfinals; with Shahar Peer she was defeated by the pairing Anna-Lena Grönefeld / Martina Navrátilová 6: 7, 4: 6. It was her best result in a Grand Slam tournament .
She won her first double title on the WTA Tour in 2007 in Warsaw at the side of Tetjana Perebyjnis with a final victory over Jelena Lichowzewa and Jelena Wesnina . In the same year she reached her second individual final at the Nordea Nordic Light Open in Stockholm, which she lost to Agnieszka Radwańska .
In 2009, Duschewina won her only individual title on the WTA Tour when she missed Lucie Hradecká in the final in Istanbul with 6-0 and 6-1 a clear defeat.
When she failed to qualify for the Australian Open 2016 , she competed in singles for the last time. Even before that, she had almost only competed in doubles and mixed competitions.
She ended her tennis career on August 15, 2017.
