Werner Sutermeister (* 1868 in Zofingen ; † April 19, 1939 in Bern ) was a Swiss writer who was known for his shaking rhymes .

Life

Werner Sutermeister attended the Kirchenfeld high school in Bern. He then studied history, German and philosophy in Basel , Leipzig and Bern . In 1891 he made the secondary teacher license. In 1894 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Metternich and Switzerland 1840–1848 .

For six years he worked as a teacher in the senior department of the town of Bernese girls' school. In the spring of 1900 he was elected to the high school in Bern and taught history and German for 37 years at the Progymnasium and the literature school, and later also at the commercial school. [...] For years he also directed the high school orchestra. "

Sutermeister also wrote for the Bern daily newspaper Der Bund :

“He was a master of light-hearted philosophy, and he shook the kaleidoscope of the German language to please himself and us with the playful coincidences of his rhymes. So he brought some cheerful, but also some thoughtful notes into our newspaper text "

In November 2012, Ueli Maurer quoted Sutermeister's dissertation in his Easter celebration speech, freedom in danger : " Metternich means: 'Today Switzerland stands alone as a republic and it serves as a free port for troublemakers of all kinds.'"
