Werner Vigna (born January 7, 1934 ; † May 28, 2008 ) was a German football player who was active exclusively for Fortuna Düsseldorf from 1954 to 1965 .

Career

For the 1954/55 season , the 20-year-old Vigna moved from SSG Wülfrath , from the town of the same name in the Mettmann district , to the upper division Fortuna Düsseldorf . He made his debut under coach Kuno Klötzer in what was then the highest German division on March 13, 1955 as a middle runner in the away game against 1. FC Cologne in front of 30,000 spectators.

Well-known players for the ex-amateur were Erich Juskowiak , Matthias Mauritz , the twin pair Karl and Martin Gramminger , and Josef Derwall . Repeatedly injuries forced him to take longer breaks, which meant he could not play a league game in the two seasons 1956/57 and 1957/58 . On June 27, 1958, he won the game for the West German Cup with Fortuna Düsseldorf ; the 4-1 win against 1. FC Köln was therefore the qualification for participation in the competition for the DFB Cup . The final , which he reached with the team on November 16, 1958 in Kassel and in which he formed the defender pair with Erich Juskowiak, was lost 3: 4 after extra time against VfB Stuttgart . In the 1959/60 season he experienced relegation to the 2nd League West with Fortuna . Under coach Fritz Pliska succeeded as runner-up in 1961, the immediate return to the Oberliga West, to which Vigna had contributed in 15 point games. In his second final for the DFB Cup , on August 29, 1962, Vigna left the field as a loser. The 1. FC Nuremberg sat down with 2: 1 after extra time. In the last year of the then first-class Oberliga West, 1962/63 , he belonged to the team of coach Jupp Derwall , which ended the season as 13th and was not taken into account for the newly created Bundesliga for the 1963/64 season . In the then second-rate Regionalliga West , he played 28 point games from 1963 to 1965 and finished third with Fortuna Düsseldorf. He played his last regional league game on January 10, 1965 in the 0-1 defeat in the away game against SC Viktoria Köln at the side of defender Hans-Josef Hellingrath .

National team

Vigna belonged to the newly formed U-23 national team as a right defender, which drew 3: 3 against the selection of Yugoslavia at its premiere on June 25, 1955 in Frankfurt am Main ; it was his only international match for the DFB .

Others

In the amateur field of Düsseldorf he remained connected to football as a coach for years.
