Werner Walter (born March 19, 1939 ; † August 20, 2000 ) was a German football player . The defender played 15 league games at VfB Stuttgart in the first year of the Bundesliga , 1963/64. Previously, he had been active for the team with the ring on his chest in the then first-class soccer Oberliga Süd from 1960 to 1963 in a total of 59 league games.

career

Walter came to VfB Stuttgart from 1. FC-TV Urbach in 1959 . The first season at VfB he played in the amateur team, from the round 1960/61 he was part of the squad in the Oberliga Süd. Under coach Kurt Baluse , the other newcomers Hans Eisele , Dieter Höller , Eberhard Pfisterer and Klaus-Dieter Sieloff started their careers in the major league in the summer of 1960 . In his first league year he came to 18, in the second year to 25 and in the third year, 1962/63, to 16 league appearances. In total, he completed 59 games in the Oberliga Süd for VfB. On October 24, 1962, he was appointed to an international match for the U-23 junior team by the DFB. In Lyon against France he was the right defender in the World Cup system that was practiced at the time and had Schalke Friedel Rausch as a partner on the left . The two club colleagues Hans Eisele and Theodor Hoffmann represented VfB in the runner row.

In the Bundesliga , Walter played 16 games for the Cannstatter. He made his debut as a left defender at the side of Hans Eisele on September 14, 1963, in a 1-1 home draw against Munich 1860, in the Bundesliga. His 15th Bundesliga appearance was on March 14, 1964 in a memorable 7-1 away defeat at Borussia Dortmund. He played right defender and had to do with BVB left winger Lothar Emmerich . In the second Bundesliga year, 1964/65, he only played on September 5, 1964, again at Borussia Dortmund, in a 0-1 defeat, his 16th and last game in the Bundesliga. VfB was on the defensive with Günter Sawitzki , the defenders Hans Eisele and Günter Seibold , as well as the runner series Walter, Klaus-Dieter Sieloff and Hans Arnold .

In 1966 he moved to the Stuttgarter Kickers , for whom he scored 1 goal in 24 missions in the then second-rate Regionalliga Süd . Under coach Georg Wurzer and teammates like Peter Schäffler , Herbert Dienelt , Rolf Steeb , Dieter Schurr , Rudolf Kröner , Horst Haug , Vladimir Popovic and Helmut Fürther , the Kickers took fourth place. Walter played his last regional league game on March 11, 1967 in a 3-1 home win as the left runner against BC Augsburg. After a season at Kickers, he returned to his hometown club FC Urbach due to an injury.
