The Wettera nature reserve is located in the city of Saalburg-Ebersdorf in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia . It extends north and northeast of Wernsdorf , a district of Saalburg-Ebersdorf, along the Wettera , a right tributary of the Saale . The A 9 and the state road L 3002 cross the area in a north-south direction, the L 1095 runs west. West also extends Bleilochtalsperre .

The 93.9 ha area with the NSG no. 288 was placed under nature protection in 2003.
