What Girls Want is a 2003 American film directed by Dennie Gordon .

action

17-year-old American Daphne Reynolds decides to travel from New York City to London to fulfill a childhood dream and to meet her father, Lord Henry Dashwood. Arriving in London, she meets Ian Wallace in a hotel, who immediately fascinates her. At almost the same moment, Daphne learns some facts about the life her father is leading through the television news. He is in the middle of an election campaign and is engaged to the daughter of a party friend who has a daughter of the same age. Ian shows Daphne the city and encourages her in her original plans to visit her father, because Daphne is no longer so sure of her cause, as she now knows that her father leads a happy life in her eyes. Eventually she makes her way to her father's estate and gains entry in a somewhat unconventional way, which turns her father's life upside down. After initial uncertainty on the part of her father, Daphne is accepted into the property after good persuasion by her grandmother and thus has the chance to get to know her father. His advisors tried several times to introduce her to society, but this went wrong every time due to Daphne's unbridled temperament and gave her father some problems in his election campaign. But when Daphne realizes that her behavior is endangering her father's career, she decides to change. She changes her outfit, her appearance and thus becomes the "perfect" daughter for London society. This contrived behavior drives Ian to turn away from her. During her "official introduction" to high society, Daphne overhears her father's party friend talking to his daughter about her mother, and learns that she has never separated from her father voluntarily. When Daphne gets angry, Glynis locks her in a room. When her worried mother finally finds her, there is a heated argument. The end of it is that both Daphne and her mother leave the property that evening and drive back to the USA. Now one would think that the end of the song is a drama, but everything turns out differently. Daphne gets her dearly desired father-daughter dance and a very big present.
