Wilfried Wilhelm Hilgert (born June 8, 1933 in Parey ; † November 11, 2016 ) was a German entrepreneur and chess patron . In May 2002 the German Chess Federation expressed its gratitude and recognition in the form of an honorary certificate.

Entrepreneur

Hilgert initially worked in the hotel business. In 1955 he started a business as a real estate broker with start-up capital of 5,000 marks , which expanded rapidly. In the mid-1960s he owned houses with 1,200 apartments.

Around 1970 Hilgert acquired the Glückstädter herring fishery, which had gone bankrupt, and another shipping company. His company had temporarily eight herring and two stern trawler and was the market leader for Matjes herring in the Federal Republic of Germany.

From 2009 he supported the soccer club 1. FC Köln with a cheap loan of almost 11 million euros .

Hilgert learned to play chess at the age of five. From 1957 until his death he was a member of SG Porz , in whose 1st team he played for over 20 years.

He supported his club financially for many years and thus contributed to its sporting success.

In 1980 he headed the delegation of Robert Huebner , who was a member of SG Porz at the time, at its candidate final against Viktor Kortschnoi in Merano . Hilgert gave a series of interviews during the match. Hübner broke off the match after 10 games and then left SG Porz. Hübner only returned to Porz for two seasons in 1995 after his former club, the chess department of FC Bayern Munich , withdrew.

Until the 2006/2007 season, the 1st team of SG Porz played in the first German chess league . From 1990 to 1992 ex-world champion Michail Tal also played in the Porzer team, with which he took part in the 8th European Club Cup 1991/1992 .

For the 2007/2008 season , the club withdrew its first team because Hilgert did not agree with the new form of the tournament as "Bundesliga eV", which was independent of the German Chess Federation . He disliked the neglect of the amateur and especially the youth sector.

Hilgert continued to be the club's patron and promoted the 1st team, which continued to play in the 2nd Bundesliga West almost completely after withdrawing from the Chess Bundesliga. In addition, he also otherwise supported SG Porz, especially the currently 24 youth teams.
