Wilhelm Albrecht von Burghagen (born January 29, 1739 in Burghagen ; † September 12, 1799 in Bielefeld ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Infantry Regiment No. 10 .

Life

origin

Wilhelm Albrecht was the son of Hardwig Georg von Burghagen (* October 14, 1697; † March 9, 1784 in Burghagen) and his wife Sophie Luise von Graevenitz (* 1720; † March 25, 1788 in Burghagen). His father was a prime lieutenant a. D. and hereditary lord of Burghagen , Kleinow , Gerdshagen and Schönhagen.

Military career

Burghagen came in 1753 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Kleist" No. 27 . During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Lobositz , Breslau , Leuthen , Zorndorf and Hochkirch as well as in the siege of Prague and the defense of Kolberg. During this time he became ensign on June 15, 1757 , second lieutenant on January 16, 1758, and first lieutenant on November 2, 1762.

After the war he became captain and company commander in his regiment on October 19, 1773 . Burghagen took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and became major on September 26, 1784 . As such he was on March 13, 1786 commander of the grenadier battalion "Wülknitz". He took part in the campaign in Holland in 1787 and received the order Pour le Mérite on October 1, 1787 for the battle near Amstelveen . On May 10, 1790 he became regimental commander. On May 22, 1792 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . During the First Coalition War he fought in the battle of Kaiserslautern , in the battle of Vicogne, St. Amand, Valenciennes, Schwalm, St. Imbert and Johanniskreuz. On January 9, 1794, he was also promoted to colonel . After the war, Burghagen became major general on March 20, 1799 with a patent from March 25, 1799. Shortly thereafter, he took over as chief of infantry regiment No. 10 "von Romberg".

Burghagen was married to Magdalene Albertine Gottliebe von dem Knesebeck (* June 1759, † October 18, 1829 in Salzwedel). The marriage resulted in a child:

  • Friedrich Karl Ludwig (born March 13, 1791 in Stendal, † July 19, 1834 in Hamburg ); Prussian major a. D., last in the 7th Dragoon Regiment
