Wilhelm Gegenfurtner

Wilhelm Gegenfurtner (* 1946 in Teisnach , Bavarian Forest ) is a Catholic priest , emeritus provost and longstanding vicar general of the diocese of Regensburg .

Life

After studying philosophy and Catholic theology , he was in 1974 Regensburg Cathedral for ordained priests . In 1976 he was with a thesis in the field of diocesan history doctorate . His pastoral activities were as a chaplain in the city of Geisenfeld , as a student pastor at the University of Regensburg , at a later point in time he was head of the department for Catholic adult education and new media in the diocese of Regensburg.

Gegenfurtner was Vicar General of the Diocese of Regensburg from 1991 to 2005 . In 2008, when dealing with sexual abuse by clergy of the Regensburg diocese , the charge was made that Gegenfurtner had transferred pastor Peter K., who had previously been convicted, to Riekofen without informing the community.

In 1991 he became cathedral capitular and in October 2003 cathedral dean at Regensburg Cathedral. On March 23, 2004, Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller appointed him as successor to Auxiliary Bishop Vinzenz Guggenberger as Provost of the Cathedral .

In August 2005, Federal President Horst Köhler awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon .

In November 2005, Gegenfurtner became superior in the motherhouse of the Mallersdorfer sisters in the Straubing-Bogen district . On July 3, 2012, the cathedral chapter elected him diocesan administrator . With the inauguration of Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer, his work as diocesan administrator ended on January 26, 2013.

Gegenfurtner has been on the Board of Trustees of the Katharinenspital-Stiftung Regensburg, a non-profit community foundation, for some time . Wilhelm Gegenfurtner is also chairman of the board of the Caritas Association for the diocese of Regensburg .

Gegenfurtner's replacement as provost of the cathedral when he retired on his 70th birthday was announced on November 8, 2016.
